{homemade} limoncello

When I started coming up with ideas for my 101 List, I just KNEW that I had to include making homemade limoncello. This Italian staple has always been a favorite of my family's & I knew I needed to start making it on my own to keep the tradition in the family. With the help of my boyfriends brother, Danny, we made the perfect batch!

{see below the pictures for recipe}

1.75 liters grain alcohol {some states, like NY, do not sell grain alcohol}
16 lemons

Day 1: Peel the very outside of 16 lemons, make sure to not get any of the white part as that will make it bitter! Put all of the yellow rind into a glass jar that you can close. Once they're all peeled, pour in the grain alcohol & close for 1 week. Be sure to keep the bottle from the alcohol though {you'll need it next week}.

During the week: You can tip the jar quickly upside down to move the liquid around a bit. The color will start to turn yellow!

1 week from peel date: Fill the grain alcohol bottle with water and put in pot with 4 cups of sugar. Heat until all sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat. Use cheesecloth to strain the alcohol/lemon mixture into the sugar and water {obviously you don't want any of the peel in the limoncello}! All done! Put in shot glass with ice cube & enjoy!

These are a few of my favorite travel items. The cotton dress is soooo comfortable and can be worm a multitude of ways. I like to bring a light, comfortable jacket as well as a scarf in case the air temperature on the plane is cool. It's also important to wear comfortable shoes :) I always travel with two Louis Vuitton bags. The {Neverfull} is the perfect carry on bag, and the {Keepall} is the perfect weekend bag. These bags are definitely an investment, but they are classic pieces you'll have forever.

i had such a fun weekend out on my boyfriends boat with his family & our friends. we took his niece out on the boat for the first time and she had an absolute blast! there's something about the 4th of july that gives me butterflies and makes me feel like a little kid! maybe it's the boating & waterskiing or maybe it's the fireworks that i'll never get sick of :)

memorial day weekend

i'm seriously wayyyy behind with my posts...as well as other things such as working out!!! it's time to change all of that! first things first, an update on memorial day weekend.

i spent the weekend down in ocean city, maryland with {olive} and his softball team for a tournament!

the first day the boys had four softball games...

...the ladies and i decided to go get some margaritas and then go cheer on the boys since it was overcast and a little rainy...not ideal beach weather...

...sadly, they only won 1 out of their 4 games...could this be due to their hangovers from going out the night before?! i'll go with yes!

the next day it was absolutely gorgeous outside...the PERFECT beach day! the boys found out they had a game at 2:00 and immediately decided that they would rather hang out at the beach with the ladies and forfeit their game!

it was a very fun day, with frezzing cold atlantic water!

after the beach we stopped at a bar called seacrets...think spring break craziness! it was a lot of fun!

the day ended with a wonderful dinner at fager's island. i had the salmon with lobster risotto...it was delicious!

monday came and it was time to go home :( the weather was gorgeous so a couple of us decided to just stay and enjoy with some mini golf and burgers...traffic home, was NOT fun!

i hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend :) can't wait for the next one

i'm pretty sure this burberry raincoat i recieved from my mom for my birthday last year was one of the best gifts i have ever been given due to the rainy springs we've been having! hunter wellies, also a must! the new j. crew minnies are great tucked into any kind of boots but also look amazing with flats, heels and flip flops! it's always fun to add some color to your wardrobe on a rainy day :)

i have a funny thing with numbers...odd numbers specifically. i don't know what about them it is, but odd numbers {secretly} drive me crazy...i say {secretly} because i had a discussion with my friend on the train this morning regarding my situation...she coincidentally has this same obsession. today, i turn 24...in the year 2010. not that i can complain that my life is rough in {ANY} way, but 2009 and my 23rd year were definitely not my favorite. specifics are not needed, but when the clock struck midnight in 2010, i knew my luck was going to change. i think 2010 and my 24th year are going to be spectacular! things are already off to a promising start, and i have to say, it is my wonderful family and amazing friends that i have to thank for that :)

tonight, i get to celebrate my life with the people closest to me...{and ice cream cake of course}!

this weekend, the weather was absolutely gorgeous here in new york! temperatures reached the mid 70's and there were very few clouds in the sky...the perfect beginning to spring time...i welcomed the new season with these beautiful tulips, the top down on the convertible and an outdoor lunch with one of my best friends!

if you are ever in new york and have a chance to visit cold spring, do it! it is a quaint town filled with boutiques and antique stores and it is located right along the hudson river {great views} about an hour and fifteen minutes from nyc. my friend and i had lunch at cathryn's, which is an amazing little place with a great outdoor garden. i had the rigatoni i funghie e pisilli {rigatoni with pancetta, mushrooms and peas in a cream sauce}...which was to die for!

i hope everyone else had wonderful beginning to spring!

this morning i woke up and was {as usual} in a rush to get ready. i grabbed the jeans and shirt that were at the top of my clean laundry pile and threw them on, while at the same time, trying to brush my teeth, comb my hair and add some makeup...10 minutes later i was out the door, driving to the train station and heard irish music on the radio which was random...then it came to me...oh yeah, it's saint patrick's day! {i am not irish} i looked down at the clothes i had randomly selected and my shirt happened to be green...what a lovely surprise :)

after hurting my knee last fall while training for a half marathon, i pretty much quit working out...meaning the only exercise i got was my twenty minute walk to work and my twenty minute walk back home.

now home {and with the start of the new year, looking forward to a summer body} i have rejoined the gym, and with my friend nicole have started working with a trainer, vinny. at our last session he introduced us to {krav maga}, an israeli combat fighting technique. going into our session nicole and i think this will be a breeze, cardio kickbox type thing. we were proven {very, very} wrong!!! this workout was a mixture of shadow boxing, pushups, crunches and squat jumps...non stop moving for 28 minutes...even when you're resting, you're NOT resting! {and 28 minutes was only about half of the total workout}...it was definitely the most intense workout either one of us has ever experienced {there were points we were on the verge of blacking out and throwing up}...

two days later, i am still sore, but i can already feel the results...go on and try it...i dare you :)

i would just like to write a quick note asking that everyone pray for my sisters friend stephanie. she traveled to haiti with ten other student and a couple facutly members on monday for a humanitarian mission. yesterday we were informed that she had been found, but it was discovered last night that they had received "false information" and that she was still missing along with two other students.

please keep stephanie and her family in your thoughts and prayers...we are all hoping for a safe arrival home for her :)

tomorrow marks my last day as an nyc resident. although i absolutely LOVE living in the city, financially, paying rent does not make sense {especially nyc rent}! i plan on moving home for awhile so i can save some money to buy a nice condo or townhouse in westchester...having equity in something makes a lot more sense to me, even if it means giving up the city lifestyle. the past year has been a lot of fun and i am definitely sad to not live here anymore, but i'm ready to move on...

{thankfully i still get to come into the city everyday for my job though!}

one of my best friends is finally back home for a couple weeks after finishing a semester of grad school in edinburgh...i'll be seeing him again in a few months in barcelona :)

i know both wishes are very delayed, but i have been all over the place the past two weeks! on the 23rd i found myself stuck in chicago on my way to minnesota to visit relatives for christmas...i finally made it there the afternoon of the 24th! i flew back home to new york on the 28th and was busy preparing for new years. new years eve was spent with my sister and good friends in the city and new years day back at home, where i celebrated my 7th christmas!!! this christmas i really did get everything i could have wanted and more! among my favorites, hunter wellies, with removable fleece lining! a louis vuitton key holder! a red winter coat, complete with toggle closings! and CASH which will be put to good use for a trip to barcelona in april :)

i hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and i wish you all great things in 2010!

this past weekend {first weekend in december} new york saw it's first snowfall of the season...luckily i was up in westchester and was able to enjoy the beauty of it :)
